Deliverability e statistiche
Read your stats
What each number on the stats page means, why opens are estimates, and when a send stops on its own.

Where to find them
In Newsletters, click Statistics next to a sent issue. The list also shows a short summary.
The numbers
- Sent: emails handed to the sending service.
- Delivered: accepted by the reader's inbox.
- Bounces: the address was refused or can't be reached.
- Complaints: the reader clicked "this is spam".
- Opens: unique readers who opened.
- Clicks: unique readers who clicked a link.
- Unsubscribes.
Delivered, bounces and complaints are out of sent. Opens and clicks are out of delivered.
By email provider splits the numbers by Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud and others. Company domains are grouped by the service that hosts their mail. A rate in red is over the alert level.
Opens are estimates
An open is counted when the email loads a tiny invisible image. Only the first open per reader counts.
Apple Mail Privacy Protection loads the images of every email on its own, even unread. So Apple Mail readers often count as opens.
We don't remove these opens. Read the open rate as a trend, not an exact number.
Click tracking
Links in the email go through a tracking link, then on to the real page. Only the first click per reader counts.
The tracking link is signed, so nobody can change where it leads. With a custom subdomain, links use your own domain. See Sending domains.
Safety stops
A campaign pauses on its own if:
- hard bounces go over 2%, with at least 5 bounces,
- or complaints go over 0.08%, with at least 2 complaints.
It stops for good, and your account is blocked, if bounces go over 5% (at least 10) or complaints over 0.3% (at least 3). If our team restarts a paused campaign, only this second limit can still stop it.
A refused address is then blocked for all Smartletter customers. A reader who complains gets nothing more.
Your whole account is also watched, over 24 hours and over 7 days. Last-chance emails count too. At the first limit, you get a warning email (at most one a day). At the second, sending is blocked. See Write and send a campaign for the pause reasons.
