Write and send a campaign
Create an issue, write it in the editor, send yourself a test, then send it. Here is what happens after you click send.
Questo articolo è mostrato in inglese.
Create an issue
- Open Newsletters.
- In Newsletter to edit, pick the newsletter.
- Click New edition. The editor opens.
- Fill in the Subject and the Preheader. The preheader is the short text inboxes show next to the subject.
- Write the body. Changes are saved on their own.
The visual editor works like a document. Type / to add a block: text, headings, lists, quote, image, button, product, 2 to 4 columns, divider or raw HTML.
The style panel sets colors, font, text size and buttons. The style applies to every issue of this newsletter.
The AI agent panel can write a section, reorder or shorten the text for you.
Send a test and check the review
Click Send me a test. The test goes to your account's address, with [Test] before the subject. It arrives within a minute.
Tests count towards your monthly quota. You can send 10 tests per hour at most.
Before you send, a Before you send review lists what to check:
- Blocking (red): no subject, missing unsubscribe link, missing postal address. You can't send until you fix them.
- Check (orange): long subject, no preheader, email too heavy (Gmail cuts large emails), empty or broken links, images without alt text, domain not verified yet.
Send the issue
In Send to, pick who gets it. The editor shows the number of recipients.
Click Send now, then Confirm send. You can also schedule it: see Schedule a send.
You can tick Only send to the most engaged contacts and pick a number. The most active readers get it first. Later, Send to the next sends it to the others.
When you send, the content is locked. You can no longer edit this issue.
What happens during the send
The sending service checks every minute for issues to send. It sends them in batches through Amazon SES.
- Test batch: the first time you send to 100 or more new contacts, 10% of them get it first (50 to 500 addresses). The others wait 3 hours. If bounces and complaints stay low, the rest goes out.
- Warm-up: a new account sends at full speed up to a limit. Above it, the send is spread over 4 to 72 hours. The limit grows as your past sends prove clean.
- Order: the most engaged contacts get it first.
The issue page shows the progress, the next batch and the expected end.
Pauses and reviews
Click Pause to stop a send. Click Resume sending to go on. A send can also pause on its own:
- Paused by your team: someone clicked Pause.
- Monthly sending limit reached: upgrade your plan, then resume.
- Too many rejected addresses: over 2% bounces, and at least 5.
- Too many spam complaints: over 0.08%, and at least 2.
- The test batch got too many bounces or complaints.
- The account was suspended.
The three automatic pauses (bounces, complaints, test batch) are safety stops. You can't resume them yourself. Contact support.
Some content is checked by our team before it goes out. You then see Your campaign is being reviewed. It goes out as soon as it is approved.
Welcome email and public archive
In Newsletters, the Automated emails panel holds the Welcome email. It goes once to each new subscriber, after they confirm. Never to imported contacts. It needs a subject, a message and the postal address.
The same panel lets you change the opening sentence of the confirmation email.
For more than one email, use a sequence. A sequence on sign-up replaces the welcome email. See Sequences.
The Public archive panel publishes each sent issue on its own page, with a signup form. Hidden issues, issues reserved to a plan and issues sent to part of the list are never shown.
