Automated sequences

Emails that send themselves, at each contact's pace: after a lead magnet, on sign-up or after an event.

Dieser Artikel wird auf Englisch angezeigt.

Create a sequence

  1. Open Sequences and click New sequence.
  2. Pick a template: After a lead magnet, Welcome in 3 emails, Win back inactive contacts or Empty.
  3. Name it and pick the newsletter. It gives the sender and the footer.
  4. Choose the trigger, then add the steps.
  5. Click Send me the sequence to test it. In a test, 1 day lasts 1 minute.
  6. Click Activate.

Later edits go live when you click Publish changes. New contacts follow the new version. Contacts in progress keep theirs.

Free includes 1 sequence, Starter 3, Pro 20. Scale and Agency have no limit. Archived sequences don't count.

Triggers: who enters

  • Newsletter sign-up: a new subscriber, after they confirm. Imported contacts enter only if you tick Include imported contacts.
  • Topic subscription: a contact joins a topic.
  • Lead magnet download: one lead magnet or any of them.
  • Custom event: an event you send with the API, like purchase.
  • Issue opened or Click in an issue: one issue or any of them.
  • Entering a saved filter: a contact starts to match a filter. Tick Also let in the contacts who already match to include today's matches.
  • Added manually or via the API: from the sequence page, the API or the MCP.

Re-entry sets if a contact can go through again: Only once, Every time or After N days.

Steps

  • Email: written in the visual editor or taken from a published template. Type / to insert the first name or a field.
  • Delay: wait 5 minutes to 365 days. Or wait until a time of day, on chosen weekdays, in the contact's or the newsletter's time zone.
  • Wait: wait for an open, a click or a custom event, for 1 hour to 30 days. Then continue or exit.
  • Condition: if the contact matches a saved filter, follow the If yes branch, else If no.
  • Update: change a field, or subscribe or unsubscribe from a topic.
  • Webhook: call one of your endpoints. Create it in Settings first.
  • Exit: the contact leaves here. It must be the last step.

A sequence holds 50 steps at most, and 5 levels of conditions.

The contact's time zone comes from a field named timezone. Without it, the newsletter's time zone is used.

Exits

An unsubscribed, bounced, dormant or deleted contact always leaves.

  • Exit on these events: up to 10 event names, comma-separated.
  • Exit if the contact matches the filter: pick a saved filter.
  • Topic: a contact who unsubscribes from this topic leaves.

You can also remove one contact by hand in Recent enrollments. The page shows how many entered, are in progress, completed or exited.
